Five Delo® 400 Products Approved for API SN PLUS
What is SN PLUS?
API SN PLUS is a new motor oil specification developed for turbocharged engines that is being developed in response to automakers request for motor oils that protect against Low-Speed Pre-Ignition (LSPI) – an engine condition known to occur in Turbocharged Gasoline Direct Injection (TGDI) engines that can be mitigated by changing the motor oil formulation.
On November 9, 2017, the API Lubricants Standards Group approved the adoption of SN PLUS, a new classification that may be used in conjunction with API SN and API SN with Resource Conserving. For more information, the user language and requirements for the new classification may be.
We are excited to announce that the Delo® 400 products listed below are now approved for the API SN PLUS service category.
Delo 400 XLE 10W-30
Delo 400 XLE 15W-40
Delo 400 ZFA 10W-30
Delo 400 XSP 5W-30
Delo 400 XSP 5W-40
And the XLE and ZFA ISOCLEAN Certified products are approved for API SN PLUS as well.
Over the last decade, automakers have raced to meet more stringent fuel economy and greenhouse gas emission standards by introducing generations of smaller, more fuel-efficient gasoline direct injection (GDI) and turbocharged engines. An unexpected consequence of generating more power from downsized modern engines has been the rise of a phenomenon known as Low Speed Pre-Ignition (LSPI). At a minimum, LSPI can cause severe knocking. At worst, it can cause catastrophic damage to critical engine components.
In response, the American Petroleum Institute introduced a specification, API SN Plus, and called upon lubricant producers like Chevron to come up with solutions to this problem. This has been described as a “supplemental standard” to the existing API SN specification specifically addressing LSPI mitigation. May 1, 2018 was the first license date for the new spec.
As of yet, Chevron is the only company in the industry to have multiple API SN PLUS approvals, and our Delo 400 product line is the only one in the industry that meets the existing API SN specification across the entire line.
